About CITD
The Center for International Theatre Development (CITD) connects American theatre makers with their global counterparts, fostering solidarity and shared knowledge across diverse theatre cultures, with a focus in Eastern and Central Europe.
As tensions rise across the globe, artists are on the frontlines—using their work as a force of resistance, solidarity, and hope. For over 30 years, our founders Philip Arnoult and Carol Baish built global networks connecting U.S. artists with their counterparts abroad. That history positions CITD to rise to this moment, linking U.S. artists with resilient, virtuosic partners whose art channels resistance, hope, and the transformative power of theatre.
Notes from the Field is a publicly-available publication that chronicles our travel and work, sharing what we’re witnessing in theater and culture abroad.
